Objectives
- Identify the operating principles, features, and controls of the Forklift.
- Understand the safety rules and regulations for working with Forklifts.
- Develop essential skills on how to inspect, operate and maintain a Forklift safely and efficiently in accordance with OSHA requirements.
- Learn how to properly lift heavy loads using a Forklift, controlling, and manoeuvring materials through tight spaces or up/down slopes when necessary.
- Familiarize participants with emergency procedures such as responding to power failure, leaks or spills, mechanical breakdowns etc., as well as other potential risks associated with Forklift operations.
- Demonstrate proper knowledge of forklifts through hands-on practice driving, loading/unloading materials while remaining in compliance with OSHA guidelines on safe operation standards in different environments (indoor/outdoor).
- Provide instruction on how to use Load Stabilizers/Stabilizer Arms for enhanced control/safety when moving materials at height during lifting operations
8 Ensure proficiency in understanding all aspects of forklift operation including pre-operation inspections, refuelling/battery charging practices & parking protocols etc., for overall improved workplace safety performance.
Course outline
Module 1: Introduction to Forklift Basics
- Defining the types of forklifts used in the workplace
- Basic functions and components of the forklift
- Principles of safe operation
- The safety rules and regulations for working with Forklifts
- Essential skills on how to inspect, operate and maintain a Forklift safely and efficiently in accordance with OSHA requirements
Module 2: Operational Hazards and Risk Assessment
- Identifying potential hazards associated with operating a forklift
- Analysing risk associated with each hazard and developing strategies for controlling it
- Developing personal protective habits and following safety regulations
Module 3: Pre-operation check-up And Inspection of Forklifts
- Checking for safety features including brakes, lights, horns, steering, wheels, mounting attachments, tires etc.
- Diagnosing any faults that may lead to safety issues
Module 4: Driving Techniques and Manoeuvring in Tight Spaces
- Learning how to accelerate, brake and turn properly when driving the forklift
- Understanding various manoeuvres such as stacking and weaving in tight spaces
- Demonstrate proper knowledge of forklifts through hands-on practice driving, loading/unloading materials while remaining in compliance with OSHA guidelines on safe operation standards in different environments (indoor/outdoor).

Module 5: Loading and Unloading Goods Correctly
- Understanding loading limits and weight distribution techniques
- Defining proper techniques for safely unloading goods onto pallets or shelves

- Familiarize participants with emergency procedures such as responding to power failure, leaks or spills, mechanical breakdowns etc., as well as other potential risks associated with Forklift operations.

Module 6: Safely Transporting Goods on The Forklift
- Learning how to properly secure items on the forks
- Executing proper driving techniques while transporting goods on the forks
Module 7: Post-Operation Maintenance & Repair Checks
- Performing post-operation checks upon completion of tasks
- Understanding preventative maintenance measures for long term use
