Introduction
Welcome to this training course designed to prepare you for becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)! In this course, you will gain the knowledge and skills needed to provide quality care in a variety of healthcare settings.
You will learn about important concepts such as patient communication techniques, infection control, medical terminology and protocols, nutrition and hydration management, vital signs monitoring, personal care assistance and ethical considerations in patient care. In addition, we’ll discuss the legal aspects of being a CNA and provide guidance on how to become successfully certified in your state.
Through lectures, interactive activities, and hands-on practice sessions, you’ll acquire the skills necessary to become an effective member of the healthcare team. Upon completion of the course curriculum and passing the required exam(s), you will receive your CNA certification.

Objectives
- Demonstrate knowledge of the specific roles and responsibilities of a CNA, including patient care and comfort, assistance with mobility and activities of daily living, communication, and documentation practices.
- Describe professional ethics as it applies to the CNA role in patient care.
- Develop people skills necessary for effective communication with patients, family members, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Utilize infection prevention protocols in order to keep patients safe from harm.
- Describe how to recognize signs and symptoms of various health problems associated with aging or illness that require medical attention by a licensed healthcare provider.
- Explain how comprehensive assessments can be used to determine the needs of individuals receiving nursing assistant services.
- Demonstrate proper techniques for providing personal hygiene services such as bathing and oral care to patients or clients within the scope of practice for CNAs as outlined by state regulation and/or facility policies procedures manuals (PPMs).
- Implement strategies related to nutrition assessment, hydration intake, positioning, turning and transfers while ensuring fit safety actions are practiced at all times when working with those needing CNA services within an acute or long-term care setting.
- Identify principles governing documentation related to record keeping on individual patient’s health profile including flow sheets, incident reports, nursing notes, etc.

Certified Nursing Assistant Course Content
Module 1: Introduction to Patient Care
Overview of the Role of a CNA; Professional Responsibilities; Medical Terminology; Communication Skills for Nursing Assistants.
Module 2: Safety and Infection Control
Workplace Safety Practices; Prevention of Spreading Diseases and Infections; Hazard Identification and Control.
Module 3: Basic Nursing Skills
Taking Vital Signs; Bed Making Techniques; Proper Bathing Procedures; Assistance with Ambulation.
Identify principles governing documentation related to record keeping on individual patient’s health profile including flow sheets, incident reports, nursing notes
Module 4: Assisting Patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
Transferring Patients Safely; Assisting with Toileting, Eating and Grooming Needs; Range-of-Motion Exercises.

The Impact of End-of-Life Issues on Patients and Family Members; Recognizing Tension, Fear or Discomfort in Others.
