Objectives
Welcome to the book on “Women in Politics and Leadership in Ghana”. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the participation of women in politics and leadership roles in Ghana. This will explore the historical and cultural factors that have shaped women’s involvement in politics and leadership, as well as the challenges they face and the progress made towards achieving gender equality.
Ghana is a country with a strong history of female leaders, such as President Nana Akufo-Addo’s cabinet being made up of 30% women. However, despite this progress, women’s representation in political and leadership positions still lags men. This course aims to examine why this gap exists and how it can be narrowed.
Through an interdisciplinary approach, we will delve into topics such as gender stereotypes, institutional barriers, and societal expectations that hinder women’s participation in politics and leadership. We will also analyse successful strategies used by women to overcome these obstacles and make meaningful contributions to their communities and society at large.
Moreover, this book will provide a platform for critical discussions on the importance of diverse voices and perspectives in decision-making processes. By highlighting the experiences of Ghanaian women leaders, we hope to inspire future generations to become active participants in shaping their country’s political landscape.
Whether you are a student interested in gender studies or someone working towards creating inclusive policies for effective governance, this course offers valuable insights on addressing issues related to women’s representation in politics and leadership.
Join us as we embark on this journey to understand the role of Ghanaian women in politics and leadership. By the end of this book, we hope you will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by women in these fields and be equipped with knowledge that can drive positive change towards achieving greater gender equality.
