Objectives
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a Home Health Aid (HHA).
- Understand principles of effective communication and client rights.
- Acquire knowledge of proper body mechanics for safe lifting, transferring and repositioning clients.
- Learn to monitor the client’s physical and mental condition, assess vital signs, and report any changes to the appropriate person promptly.
- Identify methods to promote safety in the home environment while providing care to the client at home.
- Promote emotional well-being of clients through companionship and emotional support.
- Gain knowledge on how to effectively provide personal health care tasks such as bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting as assigned by a healthcare professional
- Learn how to assist in meal planning, preparation, feeding when required, shopping for groceries or other household needs as requested by a healthcare professional or family member
- Gain an understanding on providing necessary services such as light housekeeping duties related to the patient’s care or activities prescribed by a physician
